I write therefore I think

Simone de Beauvoir was a teacher, a writer, a philosopher, and a feminist. Her body of work includes fiction, autobiography, cultural comment and thoughts on feminism, equality and ageing.

At 21, she was the youngest student to pass the agrégation in philosophy at the Sorbonne.

Despite the ongoing philosophical themes in her work, she always referred to herself as an author rather than a philosopher.

When considering de Beauvoir’s book, The Ethics Of Ambiguity, Maria Popova writes about the responsibility of artists and writers, “it is they who must labor most fervently to liberate the past from the present:”

Writing

Spend a few moments in present contemplation. Consider the following questions and see where your thoughts take your writing:

Who are you, now?

Where are you, now?

What do you notice where you are, now?

We’d love to see what you come up with, if you’d like to share.
